Announcements For Friday February 17, 2012


Sermon Series on Marriage continues on Sunday. The series will be based on the book Real Marriage by Mark & Grace Driscoll. CDs of any missed sermons are available by contacting the office. The series corresponds with a video-based class held during “Connect” on Wednesdays at 6 p.m.

Confirmation Class continues on Sunday. Confirmation Sunday will be held on May 6 at the 10:45 a.m. worship service. Please be in prayer for the confirmands: Maggie Adams, Katy Clement, Matt McFarland, Megan Pennington, and Myla Zimmer and their leaders Pastor Richard and Lynae McFarland.

Chapel Communion will not be held during the weeks of Confirmation class. Chapel Communion will resume between worship services on May 20.

Senior High Bible Study will not meet this Monday because of school being out.

Church Offices are closed on Monday in observance of Presidents’ Day.

Parent’s Playgroup meets twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.  

United Methodist Men will meet on Monday at noon at Colton’s Steakhouse. They will discuss plans to make the trash bins for Camp Jo Ota. All men are welcome.

Small Group for 4th & 5th Graders meets on Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m.

Body and Soul Fitness meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:10 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Childcare is available.

Line Dancing will be back at First Church beginning February 21st at 6:15 pm. The group will meet in the Fellowship Hall on Tuesdays and all are welcome, from beginner to novice! For more information, contact Stephanie Fore who is coordinator at sfore@truman.edu.

Truman Handbells practice on Tuesdays at 6 p.m.

Small Group for 6th & 7th Graders meets on Wednesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. Youth Praise Band practices at 4:30 p.m.

“CONNECT” Activities on Wednesday
 Meal at 5:15 p.m. ($2 each or $10 for family). 


Ash Wednesday Service will be at 6 p.m. “Connect” classes will resume next Wednesday.

Women of Character Book Club meets on Thursday at 5:10 p.m. They will be discussing the first book of the O’Malley series. This is a great time to get started and join the group.

Blueberries Bible Study will meet on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Troop 404 Boy Scout Pancake and Sausage Breakfast is Saturday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. Buy a ticket from any Boy Scout or leader to help support sending the scouts to summer camp.

Chester and Lola Bell Scholarship Applications are available in the church office. This is a one-time scholarship for members of the church who are continuing their education after high school. The application deadline is April 13.

Tickets for Ordinary Women: Extraordinary Journeys Women’s Conference are available in the church office. This will be held on March 17, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $15 per person, including lunch.

February Missions: Mission Focus is on College-Age Ministry. You may choose to pray for the students, adopt a student, sign up to help with one of the meals, or donate to the meals we provide.  

Food Commodity: Instead of flour the Food Depot needs any kind of cereal this month.

Joys and Concerns

Happy Birthday on Sunday to Janet Hanley, Noah Krueger, Melba Bowen, and Abram Hoppe.

Sympathy: Sue Limestall’s father, Wallace Limestall, passed away last week. Lurene Adams’ daughter, Judith Vinyard, passed away on February 10.  

Memorial Service for Heidi Zoumaras will be held on February 25 at 3 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Our sympathy is with her family and special friends, Dan, Teresa, Brian, and Kristen Pagliai and Crystal O’Brien.
